The Swiss-Russian forum of Innovations in Lausanne

The Swiss-Russian innovative forum under the name "First Russian-Swiss Day of Innovations" took place on May 17, 2013, in Lausanne (Switzerland) and included four conversation topics: power and energy saving technologies; IT economy; biotechnologies, pharmaceutics, health care; high technologies in mechanical engineering.

As the initiator the forum is doctor Frederick Paulsen — the chairman of the board of directors of the pharmaceutical company Ferring Pharmaceuticals and the consul of the Russian Federation in Lausanne, the large businessman and scientist. The main partner of the forum from the Russian side — the first vice-president of the Union of machine builders of Russia, the deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Industry and the president of League of assistance to defense enterprises Vladimir Gutenev. As Gutenev noticed in interview, "Organizers of the forum made every effort for creation of unique opportunity for interested parties. Cooperation with Switzerland is especially interesting for Russia. The segments of the domestic market in which there is a vacuum, are rather well correlated with those branches in which Switzerland have competitive advantages".

The president of Federal polytechnical school of Lausanne (EPFL) Patrick Ebisher, the deputy head of Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade Igor Karavayev, the deputy head of the State Duma Committee on Natural Resources, Environment and Ecology Mikhail Slipenchuk, the executive director of Yandex Arcady Volozh, the rector of SRSTU (NPI) Vladimir Peredery, the rector of MGIMO Anatoly Torkunov and others also participated in a forum.

The special place in discussion at the forum belonged to pharmaceutics questions.  "The Russian authorities set the task to bring a share of a domestic production in pharmaceutics — to 50%, and in pharmaceutical and medical equipment — to 40%" - such statement was made by the deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Igor Karavayev.

Pharmaceuticals industry is an excellent example of cooperation between Russia and Switzerland, the example is Novartis concern which wants to create production in Russia and is ready to enclose in it to 500 million dollars. Nowadays 5 state programs of development of the innovative industry are worked out in Russia.

Besides, during the forum the subject of prospects of online education was touched. Potential of online education can't be underestimated, noted the president of Federal polytechnical school of Lausanne (EPFL) Patrick Ebisher. According to him, in future development of an education system in the world so-called MOOC — mass open online courses (Massive Open Online Courses) can play a significant role.

As an example showing prospects of such of option of education, mister Ebisher gave a course of professor Tryun from Stanford University. On its course "Introduction in Artificial Reason" which he decided to carry out online, 160 000 potential students were registered. 22 000  of them finished this course and passed total examination, thus 420 people received excellent notes, and none of them was from Stanford.

This meeting will doubtless stimulate essential development of the political and economic relations between the countries. In turn businessmen count on signing of new contracts.
